"Mateada" - Mate Meeting at the Rosedal Plaza
Looking to learn about Argentine culture?
Be part of its most iconic popular custom: the mateada.
A mateada is a gathering with friends or family to drink yerba mate. It’s an excuse to get together with people, talk and share a moment.
That is why the perfect place for this experience is at home or at a nearby plaza with friends, but never on a fancy restaurant.
In fact, most restaurants or cafés don´t even serve mate.
In this experience, you´ll become an expert cebador (person who prepares the mate drink).
Learn how to recognize the different kinds of yerba mate. How to identify the quality and variety depending on its taste, smell and color.
We will teach you everything you need to know to prepare your next mateada at your home or nearby plaza.
We’ll bring an individual mate glass and bombilla (metal straw) for every participant, so everyone will have the opportunity to be the cebador of their mate drink
We will also have some traditional sweets that are commonly eaten with yerba mate.
About The Host
I started drinking mate with my highschool friends when I was 8 years old. I must be honest, the first time I tried it, I added sugar to it, which is not a very traditional custom.
What I like the most about this drink, is that it gets people together and you end up becoming friends.
I took mate sommelier classes, but I’ve learned a lot more about this tradition by drinking mate with people.
